Android owners: The wait is nearly over!

If you Android owners are jealous of those in possession of a Sony Xperia Play, simply because they’re the only ones who are able to play Minecraft: Pocket Edition, then you can take out your Envy Green contact lenses – because a video from Daniel Kaplan announced that Sony’s exclusivity period is over and done with on Thursday 29 September!

Daniel Kaplan shows off the non-Sony version of Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

In the video, Daniel demonstrates how the controls work on standard Android phones, and it seems pretty decent:

  • movement buttons on the left-hand side, with a jump button in the centre (although if you walk at a block, you will auto-jump onto it);
  • swipe your thumb around the screen to move the camera;
  • tap a location to place a block; and
  • press and hold a location to remove a block – a circle expanding within a ring appears over the block, and when the circle fills the ring, the block is mined.

So, at long last, all of you Android owners are on a (fairly) level playing field as far as Minecraft: Pocket Edition is concerned. As for you iOS owners, a caption on Daniel’s video reads “iOS version coming eventually”… sorry about that… >.<
